Muharrem Erkek

Muharrem Erkek was born in 1969 in Çanakkale. His father’s name is Muzaffer, and his mother’s name is Mübeccel.

Erkek have education at Cevatpaşa Primary School, Merkez Secondary School, and Çanakkale High School respectively and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University. In 1994, he got working as a freelance lawyer registered with the Çanakkale Bar Association. He served on the Çanakkale Bar Association Board between 2000-2002. He was elected as a Council Member of Çanakkale Municipality in the Local Elections held in 2004 and 2009. He served on the Executive Committee of the Çanakkale City Council and he carried on a work as a volunteer at Çanakkalespor and the Çanakkale Association for the Mentally Disabled. He served as a Member of Parliament for Çanakkale from 2015 to 2023. In addition, during the 26th term, he was a member of the CHP (political party name is Republican People’s Party) Group Executive Board and the Constitutional Committee of the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey). Following the General Assembly in 2018, he became the Vice Chairman of CHP responsible for Legal Policies. He also carried out the Secretary-General of CHP between 2019-2020. He was elected as the Mayor of Çanakkale in the Local Elections on March 31, 2024.

Muharrem Erkek is married to Özen Algönül Erkek and they have two children.
