H. Tarık Şengül received his Bachelor’s degree from METU City Planning Department (METU), and his Master’s degree from the Political Science Department of the same university. He received his PhD in Urban Studies from Kent University, England, with the dissertation titled “Hegemony and Urban Space: The Case of Ankara”.

He is a faculty member in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at METU and the Department of Urban Policy Planning and Local Administrations.

His research interests include urban politics, local governments, urban poverty, urban geopolitics and urban social movements. In addition to his national and international articles, he has two books with titles “Urban Contradiction and Politics” and “Conservative Populism”, published in Turkish by İmge Kitabevi.

In addition to his academic studies, he served as the Chairman of the Chamber of City Planners (2008-2010) and the Coordinator of the Diyarbakır City Master Development Plan Work (2004-2005).
