
Samir Avdić
He is a current member of the Novo Sarajevo Municipal Council and a former deputy mayor of the city of Sarajevo. He is married and has two sons.
His educational journey began in Sarajevo, where he completed his primary, secondary and academic education. Avdić graduated and received his master’s degree in sports management from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, University of Sarajevo.
Before his political career, Avdić had a successful sports career. He went through all stages of professional development in the Basketball Club “Bosna”, gaining recognition and affirmation as a player. He played for European clubs such as “Unicaja Malaga” in Spain, “PTT Ankara”, “Tofaş Bursa” and “Tuborg Izmir” in Turkey.
Avdić was a member of the junior and senior basketball national teams of Yugoslavia. He was the champion of the Balkans, Europe and the World.
He also represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in the senior basketball team and was its captain.
In addition to his professional sports career, Avdić actively participated in social initiatives. He is a co-founder of the humanitarian organization “Dobro.ba” and served as the sports director of the senior basketball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
From November 2012 to October 2016, Avdić was a member of the Novo Sarajevo Municipal Council, and in the same period, a member of the Commission for Strategic Planning and Development of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality.
From January 2021 to March 2023, he served as Minister of Culture and Sports in the Government of Sarajevo Canton, and from July 2023 to November 2024, he was the Deputy Mayor of the City of Sarajevo.
His contribution to society has earned him several awards, and he has earned the status of Meritorious Athlete of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Avdić is fluent in three languages: English, Spanish, and Turkish.
