The City of Ljubljana has officially joined the B40 Balkan Cities Network as its 78th member, further expanding regional diplomacy and inter-city collaboration across the Balkans.
The accession was formally approved by Tomislav Tomašević, Mayor of Zagreb—which holds the B40 Presidency for 2026—who signed the official document confirming the city’s entry. On 14 August 2026, during the Sarajevo Mayors Summit, Mayor Tomašević presented the signed document to Mr. Dejan Crnek, Deputy Mayor of Ljubljana, officially welcoming the Slovenian capital into the network.
Ljubljana’s entry marks a significant step in expanding dialogue and creating new opportunities for joint urban initiatives. As a new member, the city will actively contribute to the network’s core focus areas, including smart city developments, digital transformation, local climate action, local democracy and migration and cross-border economic and cultural partnerships.
Now uniting 78 cities across the region, the B40 Balkan Cities Network continues to reinforce its role as a key platform for solidarity among local governments. Operating under the motto “Better Cooperation, Better Future,” the network remains committed to sharing knowledge and developing innovative solutions to common urban challenges for a more connected and resilient Balkans.
