
Muharrem Erkek
Muharrem Erkek was born in Çanakkale in 1969. He attended Cevatpaşa Primary School, Merkez Secondary School and Çanakkale High School and graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law. In 1994, he started working as a freelance lawyer registered to Çanakkale Bar Association. He took part in the Bar Association administration between 2000-2002. In the 2004 and 2009 Local Elections, he was elected as Çanakkale Municipality Council Member. He served on the Executive Board of the Çanakkale City Council. He worked as a volunteer at Çanakkalespor and Çanakkale Association for the Mentally Disabled. He served as a Member of Parliament for Çanakkale between 2015 and 2023. In the 26th Term, he served as CHP Group Executive Board Member and Member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Constitutional Commission. After the 2018 Grand Assembly, he became CHP Deputy Chairman in charge of Legal Policies. In 2019-2020, he served as Secretary General as well as Vice President. In October 2021, he participated in the work on the Strengthened Parliamentary System, which started in October, representing his party. On March 31, 2024, he was elected as the Mayor of Çanakkale in the Local Administrations Elections.
Muharrem Erkek, who is a member of the Local Government Reform Commission of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, is married to Özen Algönül Erkek and has 2 children.
