MUSTAFA BOZBEY
Born in the Özlüce Neighborhood of Bursa in 1962, Mustafa Bozbey completed his primary education at Özlüce Primary School and his secondary and high school education at Bursa Cumhuriyet High School. He successfully graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Anadolu University in 1984 and continued his postgraduate studies at the same school, graduating as a Senior Civil Engineer.
He began his professional career in 1986 and he established Bozbey İnşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi (Bozbey Construction, Industry and Trade Limited Company) in 1989, continuing his career in his own company. Successfully implementing many housing projects, Mustafa Bozbey entered the election as the Democratic Left Party’s candidate for Nilüfer Mayor on April 18, 1999, and emerged victorious, becoming the third mayor of Nilüfer District. Following his election as a mayor, he handed over his duties and responsibilities in the company.
Nilüfer, a newly structured district, started its journey to become the modern and smiling face of Bursa with the vision of Bozbey’s municipality concept. After a successful five-year term filled with achievements, Mustafa Bozbey once again ran for the Nilüfer Mayorship in the elections on March 28, 2004. This time, running from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Bozbey made history by winning consecutive elections in central districts of Bursa, becoming the first and only mayor to do so. Bozbey achieved another first in the local elections on March 29, 2009, by winning three consecutive terms as mayor in Bursa. Meanwhile, the attractiveness of Nilüfer District was increasing with exemplary practices, gaining international fame.
In the 2014 election race, once again running as the CHP candidate, Bozbey won the election by a large margin, earning the title of mayor who won four consecutive terms. During his 20 years of urban governance, through collaborative efforts based on consensus, he propelled Nilüfer to consistently rank at the top in Human Development Reports, enabling it to join the ranks of Turkey’s most advanced districts.
Believing in the governance of cities with the participation of urban dwellers and guided by science, Bozbey, who continued his work with this belief, he became the CHP candidate for Bursa Metropolitan Municipality In the 2019 local elections, receiving 47.03% of the valid votes, which marked a record for his party but placed him second by a small margin.
Mustafa Bozbey, who married to Seden Bozbey on November 30, 2014, is a father of one child and has a grandchild. In the local elections held in 2024, as the Republican People’s Party candidate for Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Bozbey won 47.62% of the votes, achieving a great victory and becoming the Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality.
