Laktasi
Laktasi municipality has a rich history dating back to the Stone Age, with archaeological evidence of early human settlements located near hills and rivers. Roman control began in the 9th year of the common era, leading to the establishment of military camps and economic enterprises. During the 12th century, the region became part of the Kingdom of Hungary. It then experienced a 350-year Ottoman Turkish conquest, which resulted in significant population migrations, including the compulsory relocation of Serbs from nearby regions. Later, under Austro-Hungarian governance, Laktaši was inhabited by Italians, Germans, Ukrainians, and Poles, and developed into one of the most advanced areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to contemporary agricultural techniques. However, following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Laktaši faced numerous challenges in the aftermath of World War II. Yet, in the late 1980s, it experienced a period referred to as the “Laktaši Economic Wonders,” marked by notable investments and a shift towards private enterprise, a progression that continues to date. Geographically, the municipality benefits from its location in the level expanse of Lijevče polje, bisected by the Vrbas River into Župa (right bank) and Potkozarje-Lijevče (left bank). Today, Laktaši is a member of the B40 Balkan Cities Network.
