Sarajevo

Sarajevo, the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, resides in the southeast of the country. The city, also known as the “Jerusalem of Europe” because of its diverse identity, holds significance in every aspect of the country. Its multicultural structure has established it as one of the Balkans’ foremost cultural cities. The city boasts Turkish features and influence, owing to four centuries of Ottoman domination, and held the Winter Olympics in 1984. Sarajevo, which underwent significant damage during the Bosnian civil war, is currently experiencing a revitalization and recovery process post-war. The yearly Sarajevo Film Festival is acknowledged as one of the major cultural events in the area and is a founding member of the B40 Balkan Cities Network.
