Skopje

The historic city of Skopje, the largest city and also the capital of North Macedonia, is located in the north of the country. Skopje, the most important city of the country politically, economically and culturally, has a deep-rooted history. The city, where different ethnic groups such as Turks, Albanians, Macedonians, Romans and Serbs live together, embodies the traces of different cultures and civilizations and bears deep traces of more than 500 years of Ottoman rule. The historic Skopje Bazaar is one of the best preserved Ottoman bazaars in the Balkans. The city bisected by the Vardar River, the subject of songs, is now also known as a city of sculptures as a result of the works carried out within the framework of the “Skopje 2014” project. B40 is one of the Founding Members of the Balkan Cities Network.
