Tuzla

Tuzla is located in the northeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the foot of the Majevica Mountains and near the Jala River. It is one of the largest cities in the country and one of its most important centers of industry, culture, education, and tourism. The city takes its name from the salt deposits in the area and has historically been renowned for salt production. Tuzla is also known for its natural surroundings and its unique salt-based recreational lakes. The city is located close to Modrac Lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. With its developed transport network and industrial sector, Tuzla plays a significant economic role in the country. As an industrial town, it is especially known for coal mining, thermal power generation, transport links, and salt-lake tourism, including the Panonska Lakes, which attract a large number of visitors. Tuzla has a distinctly multicultural population, composed of different ethnic and religious communities, reflecting the pluralistic heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
