Prof. Hristo Atanasov Hristov
Prof. Hristov started his career at the Ministry of Defense – Security, Military Police and Military Counter-Intelligence Service. He worked in the National Security Service and the State Agency for National Security. He held positions from operational worker to head of department. He has considerable experience in organizing and coordinating the activities of these services on the territory of northeastern Bulgaria. He participated in international peacekeeping missions for which he was awarded with the sign “For faithful service under the flags” III degree.
Since 2013 he is a lecturer at Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen.
He successively moved through the academic positions of “principal assistant”, “associate professor” and “professor” in the Department of Security Systems Management at the Faculty of Technical Sciences. Since 2016 he is the head of the department, and since 2019 he is dean of the same faculty, re-elected for a second term. He is the secretary of the Union of Scientists at the Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen and founder of the National Security Association – Shumen branch.
From 05.08.2022 to 28.07.2023 he is the regional governor of Shumen.
He was elected mayor of Shumen Municipality in November 2023.
Education And Qualification
He holds an educational and scientific degree “doctor” in “Organization and management outside the sphere of material production – national security”.
Since 2004 he has a Master’s degree in Finance from Dimitar Tsenov Academy of Economics-Svishtov.
In 1987 he completed his higher education at Georgi Dimitrov Higher People’s Military Artillery School – Shumen, specialty “Technology of Mechanical Engineering”.
Married, with two children.
He speaks English, Russian and German.
