Stelıos Angeloudıs
Mayor Angeloudis was born and raised in the Ano Poli district of Thessaloniki, where he continues to reside. After graduating from the Faculty of Law of the Hellenic Military Academy for Support Officers, he pursued a military career, attaining the rank of Captain, before resigning to transition into legal practice. During his service in the Armed Forces, he founded the Public Information Office of the Ministry of National Defence of the Hellenic Republic in Thessaloniki, serving as its first Director. In 1985, he completed a second law degree at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in Public Law.
He has served as a legal advisor to the public television channel ERT3 and has held senior public positions, including roles at the Special Secretariat for Sports of Macedonia–Thrace under the Ministry of Culture and the General Secretariat for Trade under the Ministry of Development. Mr. Angeloudis also served as President of the Hellenic Handball Federation, making a significant contribution to the promotion and development of the sport. A member of the Hellenic Olympic Committee since 2001, he currently serves as its First Executive Vice President.
He founded the National Olympic Academy, serving as its first President, acted as a special advisor to the organization of the Athens Olympic Games, and was a member of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games Organising Committee. Furthermore, he established Greece’s first Olympic Museum and successfully integrated it into the framework of the International Olympic Committee, thereby positioning Thessaloniki within the international Olympic movement. In 2010, he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the Thessaloniki Port Authority.
His tenure was marked by the redevelopment of Pier One, the integration of the port with the urban fabric, and the positioning of Thessaloniki among international cruise tourism destinations. Following the completion of his mandate, he returned to legal practice and resumed his duties within the Hellenic Olympic Committee. In October 2023, Stelios Angeloudis was elected Mayor of Thessaloniki and assumed office on 1 January 2024. He is married and has two children.
