Vergil Chițac is the current Mayor of Constanta City, having assumed office on October 28, 2020. He is a 59-year-old Romanian national who is married and has two children. Chițac has a Ph.D. and holds the professional title of Rear Admiral (Ret.) in Engineering. He has a professional background in naval hydromechanics and naval structures. Prior to becoming mayor, Chițac served as a Senator in the Romanian Senate from January 2017 to November 2020. He also had a long career in academia, starting as an assistant lecturer and eventually becoming a university teacher in the field of engineering.
Chițac has received several honors and titles throughout his career. He has also been recognized as an Honorary Professor by various institutions, including the Naval Academy in Varna, Bulgaria, and the Naval Academy “Mircea cel Bãtrân” in Constanta, Romania.
